Rockstar Games accused of union busting in the UK
"Rockstar has just carried out the most blatant and ruthless act of union busting in the history of the games industry, This flagrant contempt for the law and for the lives of the workers who bring in their billions is an insult to their fans and the global industry."
"Amongst the staff dismissed were those with visas sponsored by Rockstar and those with medical conditions who will lose access to essential workplace healthcare schemes,"
"all of those dismissed at Rockstar UK were members of the IWGB Game Workers Union discord channel, and appear to have been targeted for this reason."
"for gross misconduct, and for no other reason."
Rockstar Games carried out layoffs at its UK and Canadian studios that eliminated over 30 employees who were union members or attempting to organize. The IWGB says the dismissals targeted workers active in union channels and included staff with company-sponsored visas and those with medical conditions who will lose essential workplace healthcare. The union labels the actions as the most blatant act of union-busting in the games industry. Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar counter that the terminations were for gross misconduct. Rockstar and Take-Two previously clashed with employees over return-to-office policy and made layoffs across studios in 2024–2025.
