S. Martinelli & Co. is recalling more than 170,000 bottles of apple juice due to potential contamination with patulin, a toxin from mold. Although the recalls were prompted by routine FDA testing that indicated elevated levels in a product batch from December 2023, the company reported no health issues associated with it. More than 170,000 bottles of apple juice produced by Watsonville-based S. Martinelli & Co. have been taken off the shelves due to potential contamination with a toxic substance known as patulin.
Starting March 18, Martinelli's issued a voluntary recall in 28 states, including California, involving bottles of apple juice with a "best by" date of Dec. 5, 2026.
