Meet the Asian-Blasian Winemaking Duo Shaking Up Tradition in Wine Country's Backyard

In Fall 2020, Tiffani Patton and Jonathan Yang connected over shared experiences and cultural backgrounds, leading them to establish Laughing Gems, a natural wine label. Frustrated by traditional wine cultures that overlooked Asian cuisine, they aimed to create wines designed to pair with Asian dishes like Korean barbecue and Beijing duck. They have introduced three distinct wines, including a fizzy Muscat Pet-Nat and aromatic orange muscat, emphasizing flavors that resonate with their heritage and experiences, while also redefining the wine experience for those who share their cultural backgrounds.
In creating Laughing Gems, we wanted a wine culture that celebrated the bold flavors of our Asian heritage, breaking from traditional Euro-centric norms.
One of our friends joked, 'You gems are always laughing over there!' That line became the seed for our natural wine label, Laughing Gems.
