The idea for the Opalite music video crash landed into my imagination when I was doing promo for The Life of a Showgirl. I was a guest on one of my favorite shows, @TheGrahamNortonShowOfficial. For those of you who aren't familiar, it's a UK late night show where Graham Norton (the insanely charismatic and lovable host) invites a random group of actors, entertainers, musicians, etc to be on his show and we all sit there and chat like it's a dinner party.
Built-in desks, like the one in Hudson's kitchen, were kind of the hub back in the day. It wasn't just a spot that housed the desktop computer; it was a catchall place where mail was dropped, calendars were hung, and where one could typically find address books and landline phones. Because most of these things have now gone digital, these desks may be seen as outdated - but they can still be so useful!
Forget the vinyl revival. CD players and compact discs are back on Christmas lists this year amid a wave of 90s nostalgia and coveted deluxe releases from big acts such as Taylor Swift and Pink Floyd. Demand for compact discs peaked in the mid-00s and many households ditched their systems and libraries as digital music took off. But the distinctive whirr is returning to bedrooms around the country, with retailers and marketplaces experiencing an uptick in appetite for vintage tech and music to play on it.
If you grew up in the '90s, you probably remember Jell-O Pudding Pops - one of the most iconic frozen treats of the decade. In my memory, they were impossibly creamy, perfectly sweet, and came in those magical swirls of chocolate and vanilla. Unlike regular popsicles, these weren't icy or crunchy - they were smooth and mousse-like, almost like pudding you could eat on a stick. In my house, they never lasted long; if you didn't grab one fast, the box was gone.
I would watch all my favorite shows in the basement of my childhood home, with its dark green carpet and giant honey oak entertainment center. I'd collect all my Big Comfy Couch stuffies - the Loonette with her plastic curls, Molly, Fuzzy, Wuzzy, and Snickelfritz alike - and together we'd dutifully follow along with all the Clock Rug Stretches and 10-Second Tidies.
