US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that Kazakhstan was joining the Abraham Accords. "Kazakhstan is the first country of my second term to join the Abraham Accords, the first of many," Trump posted on his Truth Social platform. In 2020, Trump brokered the Abraham Accords — a series of agreements to normalize relations between Israel and Muslim-majority nations. Kazakhstan's move is largely symbolic as the country already has full diplomatic relations and economic ties with Israel. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is currently in Washington for talks with Trump.
He has repeatedly claimed he is the only person capable of keeping Israel safe and has tried to market himself as a big strong guy who won't let Israel get pushed around. But Oliver said he has also been in charge of the longest and deadliest war in Israel's history and one that is not currently that popular in Israel with polls showing he would lose an election if held today.
United Arab Emirates (UAE) Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, where he urged an end to the war in Gaza. The meeting was the first time Netanyahu met with a senior Arab official since Israel struck Qatar on September 9 as it targeted Hamas leaders.
The White House has already sent invitations for the meeting, which is expected to take place on Tuesday at 2:30pm ET. The leaders of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan and Turkey have been invited to participate, according to the Arab officials. The White House wants the invited Arab and Muslim countries to take part in a post-war plan for Gaza and even send troops for a stabilization force that will replace the Israeli military, sources say.
