Claude now hosts interactive in-chat versions of popular apps via an MCP extension, enabling use of tools like Slack, Canva, and Asana inside chat.
The pace of change in the burgeoning generative AI world is blisteringly fast. It's often hard to keep up with everything, even if it's your full-time job. Readers tell me that one area they find particularly confusing is the wide array of poorly-named AI models. What in the heck is the difference between GPT-5.1, Opus 4.5, Gemini 3, etc.? And why would you use one over the other?
Earlier this year, Apple introduced its Foundation Models framework during WWDC 2025, which allows developers to use the company's local AI models to power features in their applications. The company touted that with this framework, developers gain access to AI models without worrying about any inference cost. Plus, these local models have capabilities such as guided generation and tool calling built in.
