Lisa Funderburke will become president and CEO of the Newark Museum of Art after nine years leading the Artist Communities Alliance.
If, like me, you'd rather be in Puerto Rico slathering mashed banana on your semi-nude body than braving the forthcoming cold front in New York City, just know you're not alone. "TROPICALIZE ME!" (2025), pictured above, was performed by Matthieu Laurette at the 3rd Gran Bienal Tropical in December, where the artist took home one of five "Golden Coconuts" along with Poncili Creación, Ángela María Domínguez, Miguel González, and Aldo Álvarez Tostado.
In the village is a collection of 13 buildings that were previously used as a training centre for France Télecom. When the centre closed, they were bought by a local couple who created Street Art City, the world's only street art theme park. The collection of old buildings now forms an extraordinary canvas - 22,000 square metres, entirely covered in street art.
The wildfires that devastated parts of Los Angeles in January destroyed more than 18,000 homes and other structures, left dozens of people dead and led to the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of others. Among the most severely affected areas was the unincorporated city of Altadena, home to many visual artists who lost their houses and studios. Recovery for artists and everyone else impacted by the 14 separate wildfires throughout the region that month has been a slow, traumatic process.
