García Hamilton investigates legacies of tradition, the inevitability of assimilation, and the ways in which family histories replay themselves over time.

When I asked to take her photograph, she suggested the main hall of her home, mentioning its lack of decoration and how the walls were bare except for a framed image of flowers and, notably, a photograph of all the men in the house.

"My memory is how passionate he was about it and how he would tell us different stories about (tatreez). He would acquire these old Palestinian dresses [some of which] are museum pieces..."

"The intention here is to reconnect with nature, not distance oneself from it" - this reflects the ethos of modern design, emphasizing harmony with the environment.
