In what appears to be its biggest management shakeup in years, the parent of Brightline, the South Florida-based high-speed passenger railroad, has reached across the Atlantic to hire a past CEO of the iconic Eurostar rail line to spearhead the company's expansion and quest for profitability. Nicolas Petrovic, 56, has been retained as CEO of Brightline Holdings LLC and will be based in Miami, according to an announcement released by Brightline Trains early Wednesday morning. Petrovic will succeed Michael Reininger, who led Brightline's development from 2012-2018 and again since 2021.
The UK government has not said when the money will be made available or over what period. It had already announced 445m for rail projects in Wales at last June's spending review, and has now explained that money will go towards building each of the seven stations. Spain's railway system is under more scrutiny than ever after a commuter train crashed near Barcelona, just days after at least 42 people died in a collision between two high-speed trains. A train driver died and 37 people were injured - several seriously - late on Tuesday when the commuter train hit a retaining wall that fell onto the tracks in Gelida near Barcelona, regional officials said.
