The former Washington Capitals forward has mutually terminated his contract with SKA Saint Petersburg and is reportedly coming back stateside to join another NHL organization. According to NHL.com's Stefen Rosner, Dubé, a 2024 Calder Cup champion with the Hershey Bears, is set to sign a deal with the New York Islanders. Given he's coming over in the middle of the NHL season, Dubé will need to clear waivers before joining the Isles and then likely get sent to the AHL's Bridgeport Islanders.
Gamzin, 22, a fourth-round pick by the Islanders in 2024, has been lights out this season, sporting a league-best 1.80 GAA, with a .929 SV%, and recorded his third shutout of the season on Sunday in a 1-0 SO loss. The Islanders' current starting netminder, Ilya Sorokin, was groomed within the CSKA organization, and Gamzin is beginning to draw comparisons to the former Gamzin Cup winner.
Selected in the fourth round (115th overall), Gamzin has taken the reins as starting netminder for CSKA Moskva in the KHL. The 22-year-old backstop took over the role from former NHLer Spencer Martin, who recently left CSKA after losing the starting job, signing with the NY Rangers, and is currently playing for the Hartford Wolf Pack. Despite playing in a low-scoring league, Gamzin's numbers have been phenomenal.
It's hard not to go out on the ice in that atmosphere. I gave it everything I had. I played my best for two periods. During the [second intermission], I realized that if this continued, I might end up in an ambulance and go straight to the hospital. I spoke with the doctor. He said that if I didn't stop, things could end badly.
Michael McLeod, one of five Hockey Canada players who were found not guilty of sexual assault charges in July, has signed a three-year contract with Avangard Omsk of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League. McLeod, Dillon Dubé, Cal Foote, Alex Formenton and Carter Hart were members of Hockey Canada's 2018 National U-20 Junior Team. They were criminally charged in early 2024 for an alleged incident that took place after the 2018 Hockey Canada Foundation Gala in London, Ontario.
The New York Islanders' 2014 first-round pick, Michael Dal Colle, has officially moved on from the NHL. The 29-year-old winger signed a two-year contract with Dinamo Minsk of the KHL, marking the latest chapter in a career that never quite lived up to its draft-day expectations. Dal Colle, selected fifth overall by the Islanders, was once projected as a top-line winger. Instead, he totaled just 21 points in 112 NHL games before his time with the organization ended after the 2021-22 season.
