Lachlan Turczan's practice sits in the space between physics, optics, and environmental art, as he works with lasers, water, mist, and custom-built lenses to produce sculptures made entirely from light.
"These works are an exploration of the human body's elasticity and capacity to metamorphose. Informed by my own experience of pregnancy and the birth of my first child last year, these paintings are a meditation on physiological transformation and the body's underlying animalistic and mammalian nature."
Robert Therrien's 'Under the Table' is a 10-foot-tall sculpture that captivates visitors, inviting them to experience its scale and intricacies from below. The piece exemplifies Therrien's ability to transform everyday objects into monumental art.
A circular concrete ring forms a defined boundary, incorporating a landing and three steps that lead into a contained field of refined sand. At the center of this ring rises a tall cone clad in polished mirrored steel. The composition establishes a clear geometric contrast between the horizontal plane of sand and the vertical reflective surface.
The exhibit, which runs Jan.15-March 14 at the De Anza College museum, is presented in conjunction with Silicon Valley Reads and its 2026 theme, "Bridges to Belonging." Self, family and neighborhood portraits reflect South Bay Area faces and stories. Marie Cameron's "People in My Neighborhood" series grew from her desire to meet and celebrate essential workers and creatives in her hometown of Los Gatos. The portraits include her neighbor's caregiver, grocery store and café workers, an artist, an author and a small business owner.
There's this push and pull between feeling unease and discomfort, the nature of the spaces, and why they feel uncomfortable. But there is also tenderness and warmth, people adapting to these spaces and finding ways to make them comfortable.
"I've always believed that music is about connection and emotional truth. What interested me here was the idea of using my voice and new tools in service of expression, not instead of it. This project respects the artist's voice, the artist's choices, and the artist's ownership. I grew up watching my parents create wonderful dreams that were owned by other people. ElevenLabs makes it possible for anyone to be a creator and owner. That matters."

We're just a week away from Frieze LA, when East Coast dealers and local artists alike descend upon the Santa Monica Airport, but this isn't Renée Reizman's first rodeo. Since the critic and artist moved to the area almost 15 years ago, she's witnessed blue-chip New York galleries set up shop and sideline the irreverent, DIY spaces that shape the local art scene. Without these spaces, Reizman writes, she would not have discovered what art can be outside of the white cube.
The six-month extension must be approved by the Visual Arts Committee, the full Arts Commission and then Recreation and Parks. Both the Feb. 18 Visual Arts Committee meeting and the full Arts Commission meeting on March 2 will provide opportunities for public comment on the proposal. A spokesperson confirmed that Recreation and Parks does not incur any costs from the installation of R-Evolution. In a presentation created by Building 180 and the Big Art Loop for next week's meeting, R-Evolution is framed as a convenient placeholder until Embarcadero Plaza and Sue Bierman Park renovations begin. Recreation and Parks currently lists that project's construction start date as "TBD."
Topped with a roof shaped like a crabshell, Le Corbusier's Chapelle Notre-Dame-du-Haut is a sanctuary amid the French mountainside. The 1955 construction rests atop a hill in Ronchamp, standing unobstructed by the otherwise forested inclines. As the sun rises and falls, light filters in through the mélange of rectangular windows tinted to cast streams of color around the space. The stained glass apertures of Le Corbusier's modernist chapel are a clear reference point for Luftwerk's "Open Frame."

Artist Ayelet Gal-On does not just paint; she builds, layering oil, acrylic and plaster on canvas. Gal-On's signature subjects for "Taken by the Wind, Swept by the Light," her upcoming solo exhibition at Gallery 9 in Los Altos, are white dresses that appear to hang on a line, defying the stillness of the canvas. "I love the process of playing with color," says the artist.
A new chapter unfolds for the arts in San Jose as Starting Arts prepares to relocate to two vacant buildings in the North San Pedro District this May. The nonprofit, dedicated to student arts programs, will transform a former courthouse and MMA gym into a vibrant hub called The Shared Arts Center of San Jose. Spanning 25,000 square feet at 99 Notre Dame Avenue and 92 Sharks Way, this space addresses the long-standing need for affordable venues where creative groups can thrive together.
Tara Donovan presents Stratagems at the Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco (ICA SF), at the Transamerica Pyramid Center, installing a group of vertically oriented sculptures made entirely from thousands of recycled CDs. On view until July 31st, 2026, the exhibition is installed within the transparent Annex space. Stratagems enters into a deliberate exchange with the Transamerica Pyramid itself. The sculptures echo the skyscraper's verticality and reflective skin, while their recycled material introduces a counterpoint to the monumentality of the building.
