In the heart of north London's Archway, St John's Tavern has, since the Victorian era, been a staple of the area, popular amongst both locals and other punters travelling from across the city. Take, for instance, Cracker Barrel's new modern logo, which the restaurant recently backtracked on after strong customer rejection. And then there's this other homestyle restaurant chain that completely remodeled years ago, and no one really noticed: Bob Evans. The farmhouse kitchen, known for slinging solid country kitchen classics like biscuits and gravy, fried chicken, and pancakes, underwent significant modern renovations that the Ohio-based company called "Farm-Fresh Refresh," beginning in the early 2010s.

In order to preserve something, you have to change it. On June 30, Justin Pichetrungsi posted news on his restaurant's Instagram account that drew thousands of responses in shock, dismay and support: He would be closing his generational family business, Anajak Thai Cuisine, for nearly two months.

Pizzeria Delfina Palo Alto, recently renovated, features a to-go window for convenience and an expanded bar, with seating near the pizza oven for enthusiastic diners.
