Footage shows the moment an Algerian migrant on bail was caught stealing Canada Goose beanies from Selfridges. Dade Mustafa, 35, grabbed the hats, worth 350, from the upmarket department store last month. CCTV captures him peering around the Oxford Street shop before snatching items and walking away. After ripping off security tags, he stuffs one down his trousers and another in his coat pocket. Off-camera, Mustafa is said to have squared up to security guard Farzan Molaei before yelling: F*** off.
And each evening, the Oxford Street store will stage a Disney-themed display every 15 minutes from 5pm to 9pm, with soundtracks and animations triggered by Tinker Bell's trail of pixie dust The display covers more than 100 metres of frontage and features 40 illuminated stars, the Jolly Roger from Peter Pan and Cinderella's carriage before culminating in the unveiling of the castle on the corner of Oxford and Duke Street.
Selfridges has blamed a slump in the number of international tourists shopping for luxury goods in the UK and weaker consumer confidence for a fall in annual sales, as the retailer racked up losses for a fifth year in a row. The upmarket department store chain reported a 7% decline in sales in the 48 weeks to 4 January 2025 to 775m compared with 835m recorded over the 53 weeks of its previous year.
