POLICE ARE SEEKING two people who at around 7 p.m. on Dec. 6, 2025, attacked a 63-year-old man at the 79th Street D station, sending him to the hospital. The victim was exiting the station when he was approached from behind, grabbed by the neck and shoved to the ground. The attackers took turns punching and kicking him before forcibly removing his wallet, then fled on foot.
Police said the 25-year-old suspect was taken into custody later Tuesday night, but his name and charges have not been released. Officers were called shortly after 3 p.m. to the Jay Street-MetroTech subway station, a busy transit hub in Downtown Brooklyn. Police said they found the victim unconscious and unresponsive with injuries to his body. He was taken to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in critical condition, but was later pronounced dead.
A large awning made of concrete and steel collapsed onto the sidewalk in front of a Brooklyn subway station Sunday morning. The awning measured 15 feet by 20 feet and showed signs of poor maintenance, including steel beams that had completely corroded through, according to the city's Department of Buildings.
