For as much as gays love their horror, and as many examples there are of the genre finding its haunting power through queer metaphor (from the scary subtleties of Psycho to the screamingly obvious A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge), there are relatively few mainstream horror films that actually tackle LGBTQ+ themes head-on. However, after a rapturous reception at the Sundance Film Festival, Australian supernatural fright flick Leviticus was quickly picked up for theatrical release by Neon and might just be the " queer horror masterpiece " we've been waiting for.

Based on the 2015 video game of the same name, Until Dawn follows a group of friends staying at a secluded cabin (classic!) who are trapped in a time loop and are forced to try and survive until morning every day. Dying resets the loop, which only increases the danger with each new trial. The film was helmed by Annabelle: Creation (2017) director David F. Sandberg, who just signed on to direct two more horror films for Netflix in the near future.

The Third Realm is quite different from the first two books in Knausgard's Morning Star series, even though the characters come from the earlier novels. With breathtaking confidence, Knausgard mirrors the first book, The Morning Star, giving us other, richer perspectives on the material. The book opens and closes with Tove, the manic-depressive wife of the jaded academic Arne. And her mix of despair and insight, humour and visionary brilliance turns out to be what these novels need most.

The clear guidelines in this magical world reflect the concept of 'psychic exhaustion', where actions have real consequences, enhancing the stakes of the narrative.

That means that it takes place before the events depicted in the movie. Does he attract Remmick because he has access to another dimension? Is the scene showcasing Black music in the middle of the film a sign that he can tap into the divine because of an encounter with an otherworldly being? The next film could show us the answer.
