RIVERSIDE A Jurupa Valley woman partly responsible for her 1-year-old son's ingestion of a deadly dose of fentanyl was bound for state prison Wednesday to serve a sentence of 12 years, four months behind bars after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter and another felony. Sandy Alyssa Acuna, 25, admitted the manslaughter count, along with child cruelty, under a plea agreement Tuesday with the Riverside County District Attorney's Office.
Any Gutierrez-Rebollo, 27, of Oakland, took the most legal responsibility for the Oct. 8, 2022 killing of 29-year-old religious student Isamaeli Eli Mata'afa, pleading no contest to voluntary manslaughter with the expectation to be sentenced to 14 years on Feb. 5. Co-defendant Michael Monrroy-Ramos, 26, of Union City, pleaded no contest to assault with a deadly weapon for an eight-year prison term, also scheduled to be handed down on Feb. 5, records show.
OAKLAND - The defendant in a years-old murder case was sentenced to 13 years, more than double the amount of time that prosecutors had initially sought to impose in a plea deal that a judge rejected. Bryon Revels, 32, was formally sentenced on Christmas Eve and transferred to North Kern State Prison on Jan. 7, court records show.
During a police interrogation, Northern told police he snapped after Tsui sprayed him in the face and allegedly brandished a wrench at him. I haven't been getting enough sleep for a long time because of him, so I snapped. And then just did that, Northern told police, according to a transcript of the interrogation. I have no intention of embellishing, trying to make my self sound any better or worse. Is he going to be okay? Or am I probably going to go to prison?
Originally charged with murder, Sean Karp, 20, instead accepted convictions on charges of voluntary manslaughter and assault with a firearm, court records show. In exchange, he was sentenced to 30 years on Aug. 12, and sent to North Kern State Prison six days later. The sentence resulted from a plea agreement between Karp and Contra Costa prosecutors. Karp was 18 at the time of the shooting.
