An air quality alert remains in effect Wednesday for parts of the Hudson Valley due to smoke and haze from the Canadian wildfires. The remainder of the area will need to be monitored closely for elevated levels of smoke, as well.

Temperatures across the United Kingdom will rise above the official heatwave threshold, likely peaking at 34C on Friday and possibly Saturday.

New Yorkers should expect temperatures nearing 100 degrees on Tuesday, July 8, due to a heat advisory with heat index values reaching 100 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Tropical Storm Chantal is expected to bring heavy rains to parts of the Carolinas on Sunday, with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph and moving north at 8 mph.

"It is kind of a dry lightning setup where you get the lightning that could start a fire but not the rain that would put it out," he said.

According to the National Weather Service, strong north winds of 15 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts reaching 45 to 50 mph starting Sunday morning.
