His great-grandfather, William Grant, built Glenfiddich from scratch in the 1880s. Literally. At 47 years old, Grant assembled a cadre of workers, some of whom included his nine children. Stone was hauled from nearby hills, second-hand stills were acquired and assembled. Construction dragged into a brutally harsh winter, yet Grant and his clan got it over the finish line, with the first spirits flowing from the stills by Christmas Day in 1887.
