NCSC and insurers target ransom payments with guidebook
Briefly

A new guidance book released by the NCSC, ABI, BIBA, and IUA aims to prevent knee-jerk reactions to ransomware incidents and provides detailed advice on avoiding ransom payments.
The guidebook offers approaches to consider before paying ransoms, such as consulting experts, involving the right people, investigating root causes, and emphasizing the importance of not panicking.
Ransomware gangs may not delete victim data after payment, as shown by LockBit leaks, warning organizations against expecting complete resolution and future prevention through ransom payments.
"The NCSC does not encourage, endorse, or condone paying ransoms...every ransom paid only fuels the rise of this particularly insidious criminal enterprise," emphasized NCSC CEO Felicity Oswald.
