The man who set up London's buildings at risk programme to protect historic heritage sites has been made an OBE in the New Year Honours.
He has written many books on architecture including Lost London 1870-1945, one of the best-selling books on London ever published.
He is a member of the Heritage of London Trust and also the founder and chief executive of the Commonwealth Heritage Forum, which set up a 12 million Heritage Skills training programme for the Late Queen's Platinum Jubilee the largest heritage project in the Commonwealth's history.
