Decades-Old Ukrainian Restaurant Shutters in the East Village
Briefly

The property owner decided to go in a different direction. Our team is searching for a new partner and location to keep a traditional Ukrainian restaurant alive. We welcome input from our Streecha community,
Streecha was a holdout in the neighborhood once dotted with more Ukrainian businesses. Its simple digs - varenyky and other Ukrainian dishes were served on cafeteria trays in a room that felt more like a rec center or home than a restaurant...
In 2022, Eater reported that the restaurant had become enlivened as Ukrainian immigrants used the space as a site for solidarity amidst the Russia-Ukraine war. At the time, Streecha was being flooded with volunteers to help with food preparation.
Recently, it appeared, the old-school spot was finding ways to modernize, joining TikTok and keeping a more active social media presence.
