Subnautica 2 launches Early Access on May 14 on Steam, Xbox, and Epic. Gameplay previews include a first dive shown during a two-hour livestream and a short gameplay trailer. The story takes place on a new world called Alterra, where a colony ship, CICADA, transports pioneers after conflict drives them from home. Something goes wrong, and the ship’s AI pushes the mission forward while the player is stranded with near-insurmountable odds. Survival depends on the player’s actions, with humanity’s future at stake. Development previously faced legal and leadership issues after Krafton fired studio heads, but the CEO was ordered reinstated. The full release is expected after about 2 to 3 years in Early Access.
