Monster Hunter Wilds--a game that attempts to continue World's legacy of franchise approachability--launched on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in February of 2025. It sold more than 10 million copies in the first month of release, reaching tons of new players.
On the opening night of Gamescom last month, Capcom and Square Enix revealed a Monster Hunter Wilds and Final Fantasy 14 collaboration that will touch the worlds of both games. Now, Capcom has revealed that its side of the crossover is starting Monday, September 29 with the arrival of its Free Title Update 3. That news came with a fresh trailer that shows off what happens when the worlds of Monster Hunter Wilds and Final Fantasy 14 collide.
Nikkei Gaming interviewed the Capcom president in May this year, but only just published it, so his comments are mainly in the context of Wilds' first month sales--which topped 10 million units in an unprecedented success for Capcom. Despite the game's strong first month Tsujimoto said that the high price of Monster Hunter Wilds' "main platform," the PS5, was an "unexpectedly large" barrier to achieving this target.
Completing a hunt will always end with a fixed-camera cutscene of the monster dying or falling asleep while getting captured. It's a satisfying sight after a tough fight, but they're not always ideal for carving parts from a monster or gathering materials from the environment.
