After a significant strike by over 120,000 federal public servants two years ago, the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) is set to engage in new contract negotiations. Their priority list includes higher wages, greater job security, and enhanced remote work provisions. PSAC's national president Sharon DeSousa emphasized the importance of these talks as a chance for the government to show commitment to improving working conditions. The discussions are crucial for addressing the needs of essential workers who play a vital role in public services and emergency responses.
We're about improving the working conditions and we're hoping that the government is interested as well. These are the same workers who protect our coasts, assist businesses and farmers, and deliver vital social programs and respond to emergencies like wildfires.
Contract discussions can take anywhere from weeks to years. Striking is always the last resort.
