"GM announced that "eyes-off" highway driving is coming to its electric Cadillac Escalade SUV in 2028. The company is also integrating Google Gemini and conversational AI into its vehicles next year. GM said its eyes-off technology will allow drivers to read or respond to texts, and relies on LiDAR technology."
"Let's fast forward a few years. Imagine you step into your vehicle, you push a button, and it drives you to the office. You catch up on work, send emails, or watch an episode of your favorite show," Barra said at the GM Forward event. "The car drops you off, and it notices it's time for a break inspection, and heads to the dealership," Barra said."
GM will introduce an "eyes-off" highway driving feature in the Cadillac Escalade IQ in 2028 that permits occupants to read and respond to messages while the vehicle handles highway driving when system indicators are active. The system uses LiDAR and turquoise dashboard and mirror lighting to confirm active operation. Google Gemini and conversational AI will be integrated into GM vehicles starting next year to enable more natural interaction. The initial deployment focuses on highways to reduce time spent on monotonous commuting. The broader roadmap envisions fully autonomous capabilities for errands, maintenance tasks, and passenger productivity.
