An Iconic New York-Style Chinese American Restaurant Reopens in a New Home
"New York-style Chinese American restaurant Genghis Cohen, a Los Angeles icon, is set to reopen for dine-in service soon in a new temporary home. The restaurant closed its original Fairfax location on May 31 after owners Marc Rose and Med Abrous were unable to secure a new long-term lease for the space that would be financially feasible. The restaurant will open in its new location just down the street at 448 N. Fairfax Avenue on Thursday, September 25."
"Rose and Abrous preserve the spirit of Genghis Cohen at the new location with the original red booths and paper lanterns overhead. The fish tank has even moved in, where it now overlooks a 12-seat bar. Like its former location, the tables will feature lazy Susans to make dining with a group easier. Favorites like kung pao shrimp, orange peel chicken, and chow fun remain on the menu, alongside new dishes like five-spice marinated and glazed Volcano Chicken and shrimp and chive dumplings."
Genghis Cohen will reopen for dine-in service in a temporary space at 448 N. Fairfax Avenue on Thursday, September 25 after closing its original Fairfax location on May 31 due to an unaffordable long-term lease. Owners Marc Rose and Med Abrous preserved original elements including red booths, paper lanterns, a relocated fish tank overlooking a 12-seat bar, and tables with lazy Susans. Signature dishes such as kung pao shrimp, orange peel chicken, and chow fun return, alongside new items like five-spice glazed Volcano Chicken and shrimp-and-chive dumplings. An expanded bar offers a late-night menu, cocktails, extended hours, and reservations on OpenTable. Genghis Cohen will be open for Christmas dinner. Local chain Prime Pizza announced planned new locations in Mission Viejo, Brea, Northridge, and Torrance.
