Dodgers hopeful with Will Smith's injury, but testing not ruled out
Briefly

Will Smith missed the Dodgers' game against the Cubs as a precaution due to residual soreness in his left wrist after jamming it during a play. Manager Dave Roberts explained the need for extra rest before the upcoming series against the Pirates, noting the possibility of medical testing. In Smith's absence, backup Austin Barnes contributed two hits during their 7-6 loss. Smith's strong 2025 performance stands out, with impressive stats in batting and RBI opportunities, raising concerns about his injury's potential impact on the season.
On that play at the plate last night, as he made the tag, his wrist turned in, so there's some residual soreness. So we just felt it made sense to give him today and obviously tomorrow being an off day, and see where it goes from there.
Pain tolerance right now. We might do some imaging, maybe when we get home. I'm not sure.
Without Smith available, the Dodgers again turned to Austin Barnes behind the plate, and he had two hits in their 7-6 loss.
Smith is off to a strong start in 2025 after having a career-worse year in multiple categories last season.
