Man killed ex's dad in frenzied attack, court told
Briefly

Kamar Williams, 34, is on trial for the murder of bus driver Derek Thomas, 55, who was fatally stabbed in a frenzied attack after Williams sought out Thomas's daughter, his ex-girlfriend. Following an abusive WhatsApp discussion regarding their past relationship, Williams encountered Thomas while he was carrying shopping home from work. Witnesses described the brutal encounter, wherein Thomas was stabbed five times before dying shortly thereafter. Williams attempted to evade arrest in the weeks following the murder, being caught at the Notting Hill Carnival a month later.
Mr Williams had been out looking for Mr Thomas's daughter Carron, but after an argument, he decided on an easier target: her father.
The breakdown of the defendant's relationship with Carron Thomas appears to have been the trigger for the defendant's actions.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, less than half an hour later. Mr Thomas was struck by the knife on five occasions in what was a frenzied attack.
Mr Williams made a 'determined attempt to avoid arrest' in the weeks following the attack, before being apprehended at the Notting Hill Carnival.
