Matthew Stafford demonstrated significant progress in his throwing ability during a workout, completing 68 passes without limitations. Coach Sean McVay highlighted the positive outcome of the workout, indicating Stafford felt good and was expected to return for individual drills. Despite Stafford's ongoing back issues preventing him from fully participating in training camp, McVay assured Stafford could play in regular-season games. The planned joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers was canceled due to the Chargers' injuries and the uncontrolled nature of practices against another team.
Stafford threw 68 passes at the Rams' practice facility, then was on the sideline for their preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night.
It was awesome, McVay said of Stafford's workout. He looked good. He threw the ball really well. There was no limitations in terms of the types of throws -- deep, intermediate, short.
McVay emphasized that while the Rams are being cautious with Stafford's back, he would be available to play if it was the regular season.
McVay said the Chargers are 'a little bit banged up' at this point during training camp.
