Robert Gagnon, 47, was sentenced to 30 years to life for killing Robert Prest, 83, with a hatchet and 15 to 40 years for injuring Carlos Quintong.
Assistant Attorney General John Formella noted that the cumulative minimum term of Gagnon's sentences, including attempted murder and second-degree murder, amounts to 45 years.
