A 'special' celebration: Will massive U.S. flag return to Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge?
Briefly

Fifty years after a massive American flag was hung across the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge for the bicentennial, efforts are underway to replicate this for the 250th anniversary. College student Alesio Bejleri and local officials are advocating for a large flag display, emphasizing the historical significance and benefits of such a celebration. They are proposing to consider lessons learned from past attempts that led to difficulties. Local council members express support and assert that planning discussions should commence immediately, given the anniversary is just over a year away.
'They did it for the bicentennial, why not do it again?' asked Alesio Bejleri, a 21-year-old student at the College of Staten Island, Willowbrook.
'I wanted to remake the same thing, but make it smart so we don't repeat the mistakes of the past,' said Bejleri.
'It seems like it should be an easy thing to plan for. It's more than a year out to July 4th of next year, so this is the time to start having these conversations,' said Carr.
'It's been a great idea, especially since it had been done previously,' said Carr.
