Shootings reach historic low in NYC, says Mayor Adams
Briefly

Mayor Eric Adams announced a significant decrease in gun violence in New York City, reporting the lowest shooting incidents in modern history. Shooting incidents dropped by 23% in early 2025 compared to the previous year, with a total of 140 reported. While Adams has emphasized seizing illegal firearms, gun violence still poses challenges, evidenced by a recent shooting of an off-duty officer. Additionally, statistics reveal that stabbings and traffic incidents are currently more deadly to New Yorkers than gun-related violence.
For five straight quarters we've had decreases in gun violence, but this quarter, we had the lowest number of shootings in recorded history.
Guns still prove to be a major problem in the city. Adams on Sunday confirmed an off-duty police officer was shot in Astoria earlier in the morning.
