A warm day in New York City on June 4, 2025, highlights a shift in work culture, with many companies reducing or eliminating summer Fridays. Experts note that the rise of hybrid work models and flexible arrangements is diminishing the demand for this traditional summer perk. Despite workers valuing summer Fridays for their role in preventing burnout and improving morale, a recent survey revealed that a majority of workers do not receive any summer-specific benefits. As job postings for hybrid positions rise, employers are adjusting their incentives to attract top talent who prioritize flexibility.
"Pre-pandemic, summer Fridays were a thing, but hybrid overall has taken over," said Bill Driscoll, technology workplace trends expert at staffing and consulting firm Robert Half.
"Summer Fridays are highly valued among workers because, for many, they represent more than just a few extra hours off," said Scott Blumsack, Monster's chief strategy and marketing officer.
