Google offers buyouts to staff in latest round of cost cutting
Briefly

Google has initiated buyouts for staff across multiple divisions, including search, advertising, research, and engineering, as part of ongoing cost-cutting measures. This follows earlier layoffs of 12,000 employees in 2023 due to the decline in demand for online services post-COVID-19 pandemic. A spokesperson indicated that the program aims to support the company's future objectives. Additionally, some teams are encouraging remote employees to adopt a hybrid work model to facilitate increased in-person collaboration among staff.
Earlier this year, some of our teams introduced a voluntary exit program with severance for U.S.-based Googlers, and several more are now offering the program to support our important work ahead.
A number of teams are also asking remote employees who live near an office to return to a hybrid work schedule in order to bring folks more together in-person.
