A 21-year-old from Carlsbad, Alexander Charles Paffendorf, was barred from possessing firearms for three years following his communications with a Wisconsin teenager who carried out a school shooting. Authorities detained him after messages suggested plans for violent attacks, including assaulting a government building. While Paffendorf denied any intent for an attack, urgency surrounding his communications led to an emergency protective order. Despite no firearms found in his possession, the court deemed the engagement serious enough to warrant significant restrictions on gun ownership for the next three years.
"This incident just happened in December, and it is way too soon to determine that you are authorized to own a gun, Soper said."
