Microsoft and IBM release source code for one of the weirdest versions of MS-DOS
Briefly

Microsoft open-sourced the source code of 1988's MS-DOS 4.00, a version known for its unpopularity and bugginess, separate from the intended multitasking version.
MS-DOS 4.00 was supposed to have multitasking features, named MT-DOS, but the source code released is for a non-multitasking version enhanced by IBM for more features.
Multitasking in DOS was not pursued further by Microsoft, shifting focus to Windows and OS/2. MS-DOS 5.x and 6.x continued the one-app-at-a-time model.
Microsoft may update the release with more documentation and files for MT-DOS. Connor Hyde's examination of MT-DOS led to the recovery of source code.
