"When every candidate was leaving, they would say, 'I hope I will hear from you, but one thing for sure, I want to be able to play that character.' All of them. All of them—and we were like, 'OK.'"
"We knew that the hero would create a shock, but I was surprised by the amount of people who were like, 'What the f-huh?', but then were like, 'I'm in,' before three quarters of the trailer had even played."
Patrik Méthé, creative director at Krafton Montréal, leads development on Project Windless, an action RPG based on a Korean fantasy novel series. The game's protagonist is a large rooster, an unconventional choice given the source material features other playable races. Méthé revealed that every single job candidate interviewed expressed desire to play the rooster character. The team's confidence in this decision was validated when the first trailer premiered at Sony's State of Play in February, generating significant audience interest and engagement despite initial shock at the protagonist choice.
