BART's recent canceled routes and long delays should be alarming, not just to frequent commuters but also to those who run public transit. Hundreds of thousands of people rely on it daily, and for it to be unreliable would affect a vast majority of their lives. People of all ages ride BART, whether it be students or even senior citizens.
The second of the two issues happened about 11:50 a.m. when a tree fell on the tracks between the South Hayward and Fremont stations, BART spokesperson Chris Filippi said. That forced closure of BART's Orange Line between those two stations. Trains going north from the South Hayward station were operating on the line, Filippi said, as were trains operating south of the Fremont station.
This October, BART Sound Tracks returns with a one-day music festival featuring some of the Bay Area's outstanding jazz and R&B talents. Sound Tracks Jazz Festival, presented in partnership with SFJAZZ, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 3pm to 6pm, in the North Berkeley Station parking lot. In addition to three unique acts - SFJAZZ High School All-Stars, B DeVeaux, and Sun Hop Fat - there will be food trucks, mocktails, and BART merch for sale.
DALY CITY - A man was stabbed outside a BART station here Wednesday afternoon, authorities said. The victim was taken to the hospital and remained in critical condition Thursday, said Chris Filippi, a communications officer for BART. Around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, the victim was stabbed near the bus zone outside the Daly City station, authorities said. Police are still investigating the stabbing, Filippi said.
Prosecutors allege that he used a seven-inch baton to beat a woman in the head on Oct. 13, 2024 at the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station. The woman told police that her attacker had been yelling derogatory things to other women present at the station, and had said, f you b-, shortly before hitting her. She went unconscious, causing a concussion and a brain injury, according to police.
A computer equipment problem early Friday through the commute into chaos for BART riders, as authorities shut down the entire system for the second time since May. In a series of social media statements, BART said the computer network issue followed a network upgrade. The agency did not say when the system would be open and urged riders to seek other means of transportation.
