In Donkey Kong Bananza, you can scan amiibo to add an extra flavor to DK and Pauline's journey into the underground. The game supports new Donkey Kong and older amiibo figures that, once scanned, give you special clothes and powered-up objects to help you smash through the terrain.

The DK artist mode is reminiscent of the Super Mario 64 start screen that let you pull and stretch the plumber's face to show off the smooth movement of the new system's first analog stick controller.

"The terrain destruction system that most sets Donkey Kong Bananza apart from previous 3D platformers is incredibly cathartic, allowing quick reductions of well-ordered chunks of dirt and rock into collectible golden rubble."

Nintendo will offer an early look at Donkey Kong Bananza during a livestream on Wednesday, June 18th at 9AM ET, featuring 15 minutes of insights.

Guillermo Valdés credited his edits to nostalgia for Rare's design over Nintendo's new take, as they more faithfully capture the character's essence from past titles.
