If that's the case, how are you supposed to make a memorable impression? The empowering news is that if you understand how the brain works, what it discards, and what it pays attention to, you'll be far more persuasive than you've ever imagined. Persuasive people have influence in their personal and professional lives.

Has this happened to you? You run into someone, and they ask about something that you shared with them that was painful. They start talking about it, and there you go, hurting again? You weren't thinking about it, and the next thing you know, it hurts like it just happened. There are occasions - holidays and family gatherings - where the effects of a past painful experience will reemerge and trigger emotional pain all over again.

I was in kindergarten when the teacher asked us to rhyme something with the word 'hill.' Another girl and I raised our hands at the same time, but the teacher called on her. She said 'Bill' - which was exactly the word I was going to say - and I immediately burst into tears. I spent the rest of the day complaining that she had 'stolen' my word.

It's 2am and you're still working.

Admittedly, I am the kind of person who needs to know the irrelevant details when someone is telling me a story, like what movie someone was watching.

Emotional regulation is vital for maintaining psychological stability, as it involves monitoring our state of mind and understanding our emotional triggers.

Triggers often originate from unresolved childhood wounds, causing us to react with intense emotions in present situations where we feel threatened or overwhelmed.

Avoiding your triggers isn't healing. Healing happens when you're triggered and you're able to move through the pain, the pattern, and the story, and walk your way to a different ending.
