Sly Dunbar, who has died aged 73 after a long illness, was one of the most renowned Jamaican drummers, respected internationally for his precision timing and for the inventiveness with which he approached his instrument. Crafting non-standard reggae rhythms that drew on funk, soul and disco, Dunbar and his bass-playing partner, Robbie Shakespeare, backed nearly every reggae artist of note

What interested me here was the idea of using my voice and new tools in service of expression, not instead of it. This project respects the artist's voice, the artist's choices, and the artist's ownership. I grew up watching my parents create wonderful dreams that were owned by other people. Christian Lee Hutson is a 35-year-old American singer-songwriter whose career began as a member of The Driftwood Singers. He went solo in 2019 and has since released three albums: Beginners (2020), Quitters (2022) and Paradise Pop. 10 (2024), the latter of which Hawke appears on with co-writing credits and guest vocals. These album releases were co-produced by Phoebe Bridgers. As well as releasing his own music, Hutson has co-written for Samia, Marshall Vore, Whitmer Thomas, Conor Oberst and Ethan Gruska.

Yet as soon as Damani and his band Mino Yanci started playing, Tongo began reciting poetry. Something clicked. "I wasn't even a guy that was really into poems, if I'm honest," admits Damani. "But when I heard him, all of a sudden, I was into poems." Realizing they'd stumbled onto something, Damani extended an invite for Tongo to meet up again at Zoo Labs studio in West Oakland.

Aerosmith have teamed up with Yungblud for a new single titled "My Only Angel," with both acts unveiling a teaser clip for the song on Monday (September 15th).
