Canton police issued a shelter-in-place for residences in the area where a woman was shot Monday night as police actively search for an armed suspect. "Police do not believe this was a random act of violence, and significant mutual aid resources are in Canton conducting a search for the suspect," Interim Police Chief Joseph Perkins said in a statement. Police responded to a report of a person shot at the Lamplighter Village apartment complex, near the intersection of Turnpike Street and Stagecoach Road, around 6:40 p.m.

"We do not have a shooter in custody at this time," Providence Mayor Brett Smiley told a news conference. Brown University also said that "the shooter or shooters still are not in custody at this time." Earlier, US President Donald Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that "the suspect is in custody," only to later reverse the statement. Officials also initially reported that a suspect was in custody.

A Braintree High School student was charged with with carrying a dangerous weapon on school grounds and resisting arrest, among other charges, after allegedly bringing an airsoft gun to school on Monday. Another student reported to the School Resource Officer early on Monday that they had seen a student with a handgun, according to Braintree Police. The school went under a shelter-in-place so the officer and school staff could approach the student allegedly in possession of the gun, police say.

VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Police responded Thursday to a report of an active shooter on the campus of Villanova University, days before the start of classes. Students shared a text from the Villanova alert system that told them to lock and barricade doors and move to secure locations. A second alert from Villanova officials warned people to stay away from the law school.

Menlo Park Police requested residents on Mills Street to shelter in place due to a barricaded person. Officers responded shortly after 4 p.m.

At 6:15 p.m. Saturday, the San Leandro Police Department issued a shelter-in-place order for residents on Begier Avenue and Glen Drive as they search for an armed hit-and-run suspect.
