The Xirang Hotel by Vector Architects is designed as a juxtaposed maze, integrating urban and natural elements harmoniously. Located near Taihu Lake and a lively market, the hotel features a modular courtyard layout that supports various functions including relaxation and gatherings. Each courtyard is defined by natural light, water, and vegetation, creating a spatial experience that is both intimate and dynamic. The design incorporates uneven terrain and cascading forms, enhancing the connection between the built environment and its landscape, ultimately providing a peaceful retreat for guests.
The spatial language is perhaps most palpable in the way each courtyard is crafted as a distinct atmosphere. One is dappled with golden daylight that filters through foliage; another is centered on a sculptural bronze funnel - the Raindrop Atrium.
The hotel is structured around a modular courtyard concept that anchors its design language. Each courtyard is tailored to a specific program - be it circulation, gathering, or quiet contemplation.
