BAY RIDGE - FASTELAVN, THE DANISH VERSION OF MARDI GRAS, comes to Bay Ridge on Saturday, Feb. 7. The Scandinavian East Coast Museum sponsors this annual event, held in advance of the penitential season of Lent, which is observed in many Lutheran countries, including in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Lent begins early this year, on Feb. 18, which will be Ash Wednesday. Bay Ridge carries a rich Scandinavian history dating back to the immigration waves of the mid-19th century and again post-World War II.

A church in Holland Park hosted a carol service with a difference, welcoming people and their pets to sing together. The sold-out event at St John the Baptist Church was held for a second year, attracting up to 400 people and animals. Organisers said visitors travelled from far afield to one of the few churches offering pet blessings in a festive service.
Cunning, a longtime rapper and producer from Frisco, and the South Bay's DJBADDJ will be on stage for the majority of the night, as some of their talented friends "stop by" for performances. The evening's list of holiday helpers includes lyrical titans like San Francisco's A1, Texas' Pudge, the East Bay's Ashkon and QM of the Rec League crew. In addition to performing on Saturday night, the aforementioned guests will be briefly interviewed on stage.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will host a "Home For The Holidays" pet adoption event at Dodger Stadium Dec. 14, opening the opportunity for Dodger fans touring home a dog from a local animal shelter. This multi-phase community event--called Breaking New Ground--will begin at 1:30 AM PT / 4:30 AM ET and ask players to figure out how to open the path to Stella Montis via the tunnels in Speranza. As everyone works toward contributing resources to the tunnel efforts, they'll earn a new currency called Merits that will help push things to a second phase of the event called "Staking Our Claim," which will unleash players into Stella Montis with an all-new progression track, challenges, and rewards.
Participants in a festive community tractor parade have been targeted by scammers pretending to seek donations over social media, according to event organisers. Drivers entering the Suffolk Tractor Light Parade were targeted by false messages purporting to be from event planners. The messages encouraged them to make a donation directly to a bank account in what the true organisers have called a frustrating and disappointing.
