Madison McFerrin's new album, 'Scorpio,' represents her journey of finding her own voice, especially after her engagement to a longtime partner fell apart.

"The true source of my pain—the visceral agony of the weeks that followed—was not about him at all. It was about what his rejection confirmed for me. I'm not enough."

"I was alone at home, trying to get over a heartbreak, and, at night, I suffered from terrible insomnia. I was just starting to play the guitar, so I would practice to see if sleep would eventually come and allow me to rest. Out of that silence and solitude-feeling like the only person awake in a sleeping city-this song was born."

In the immediate aftermath of a sports fan's heartbreak, there is that sliver of time during which all the emotion passes across their face.

"But I really like making you sandwiches," I whimper. The Man says he doesn't believe catering to him will make me happy. He wants autonomy, not a pet.

"I wanted to make plans for us to be together, but he told me that he cannot leave his wife. I’m so upset – I’ve given him an awful lot."
