Streets bounded by Barclay Street to the north, Rector Street to the south, Broadway to the east and West Street to the west are a no-go zone. Add to that closures on Liberty, Albany and West Thames Streets, South End Avenue, Battery Place, 3rd Place and Little West Street, and you've got a veritable car-free fortress around the Memorial. A pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle in a Scarborough intersection on Friday evening, Toronto police said. The incident happened at around 5 p.m. at Steeles Avenue E. and Midland Avenue, police said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. Police said an adult victim died at the scene and that the driver of the vehicle remained on scene when officers arrived.
The gate into and out of Black Rock City was closed Tuesday evening due to rain and possible lightning, as bad luck continues to put a damper on the festivities at Burning Man. The rain and thunderstorms also closed Nevada State Route 447 in Nixon, Nev. "If you are already on SR447 heading toward Gerlach, drive carefully and ensure you wait out stormy conditions in a sensible location that does not impact residents or traffic," according to an update on the Black Rock City 2025 website.
This year's NYC Summer Streets season ends today with festivities in Brooklyn and the Bronx. Streets will begin closing in both boroughs at 5 a.m. Saturday and reopen at 3:30 p.m. No parking will be allowed until 4 p.m. From 7 a.m. until 3 p.m., New Yorkers can walk, run and cycle along car-free streets.
