The release of the iPhone in 2007 marked the beginning of the end of the BlackBerry era. The prospect of on-screen keys was undeniable, and the trend of having a pocket PC left everyone dazed over the years as smartphones evolved into their best version, year after year, for decades. However, things then go full circle, and we are plateauing with what bezelless smartphones can offer.

SIM cards, the small slips of plastic that have held your mobile subscriber information since time immemorial, are on the verge of extinction. In an effort to save space for other components, device makers are finally dropping the SIM slot, and Google is the latest to move to embedded SIMs with the Pixel 10 series. After long avoiding eSIM, I had no choice but to take the plunge when the time came to review Google's new phones. And boy, do I regret it.

This was a surprisingly fun year for smartphones. I wasn't expecting it to be; the category is often described as stale or "plateaued." But as WIRED's resident phone reviewer, I've tested nearly all of this year's handsets-devices as cheap as $130 all the way to an eye-watering $2,000-and I don't think there's been a year filled with as many varied styles in quite some time.

Smartphone maker Infinix is teaming up with Italian design house Pininfarina for its upcoming flagship, according to a source familiar with the company's roadmap. Pininfarina, the iconic design house behind legendary automobiles from Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, and more, brings a rich automotive heritage to the table. It would mark the studio's first-ever collaboration with a smartphone brand.

Honor has yet to reveal an exact launch date for the Magic8 series, but the lineup is confirmed to debut sometime between October and December this year. Meanwhile, live images of the base Magic8 in the Sky Blue Glaze edition have surfaced online. The Magic8 series in the Sky Blue Glaze finish appears to have a unique pattern on the rear panel that becomes visible when light reflects off it.

Also, it's hard to see, but it looks like this model will have a flat display - at least one that's not nearly as curved as the Edge 60 display. As you can tell by the little square on the back, Motorola has yet again partnered with Pantone to pick this color - and there should be more hues too.

To say that Sony is conservative about changing the design of its smartphones would be a laughable understatement - for anyone but the biggest Sony fans it's almost impossible to tell different generations apart. This, however, may change for its next mid-ranger, the Xperia 10 VII. According to a case maker on Amazon, Sony will be switching things up this time, with a different arrangement of its camera sensors compared to its predecessor which launched last year.

The OnePlus 15 will have a rounded-corner rectangle-shaped camera island, located in the top left part of its rear, differing significantly from the OnePlus 13.

The new design of the Pixel 9 Pro includes flat edges, making it easier to pick up. This addresses a significant complaint about the Pixel 8 Pro's slick surface.

The Galaxy Z Flip lineup has been the most popular of Samsung's foldable devices, appealing to users for its functionalities and compact design. The latest Z Flip 7 features a slimmer design and upgraded FlexWindow with a larger, brighter display that enhances user experience for both power and everyday users.
