Just two of the five Best Original Song nominees will be performed live at this year's Oscars ceremony in a move fans say reeks of favoritism. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences shared in a letter to music nominees that Golden from KPop Demon Hunters also tapped for Best Animated Feature Film and I Lied to You from Best Picture nominee Sinners are the only contenders that will be performed on March 15, according to the notice published by Variety.

In an inversion of the usual order of operations, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts presented its Film Award nominations a week after the Academy Award nominations. Looking at the list, there aren't too many differences from the Oscar lineup. Oscar-nominated actors Amy Madigan ( Weapons), Delroy Lindo ( Sinners), and Elle Fanning ( Sentimental Value) were left off the BAFTA ballot, so you can imagine the days of fretting we'd all have done for them had the BAFTA noms emerged first.

The film collected sixteen nods that include Best Picture, Best Director for filmmaker Ryan Coogler, and Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan's dual role as twins who face down an onslaught of undead evil. One Battle After Another, Sentimental Value, and Marty Supreme and Frankenstein also racked up multiple nominations Thursday as the Academy Award contenders were announced.

"For me the reward has been all of it. Just getting the script done was a type of reward, my crew together was a type of reward, getting everybody to come to New Orleans, getting to share the screenplay, I shared it with Rosemary like I always do, getting good feedback from her. And then showing the movie to audiences, which is the biggest reward I could ask for," Coogler said.

Shortly, the Oscar fate of hundreds of feature and short documentary hopefuls will be decided during what is known as "preliminary voting" (December 8-12), when the 736 documentary branch members give each film they've seen a numbered score. This will yield the shortlist of 15, from which they will rank those films on a preferential ballot. The shortlist announcement will come on December 16. The whole Academy will vote on the final five. But only those who have seen all five can vote.
