I think passage of a war powers resolution right now [is a] terrible, dangerous idea. It would empower our enemies, it would kneecap our own forces and it would take the ability of the US military and the commander-in-chief away from completing this critical mission to keep everybody safe.
It was abundantly clear that if Iran came under attack by anyone - the United States or Israel or anyone - they were going to respond, and respond against the United States. We knew that there was going to be an Israeli action. We knew that that would precipitate an attack against American forces, and we knew that if we didn't pre-emptively go after them before they launched those attacks, we would suffer higher casualties.
Senate Republicans have voted down a bill that would have curtailed President Donald Trump's use of force against drug cartels after he authorised strikes on boats suspected of engaging in drug trafficking off the coast of Venezuela. The bill from Democratic Senators Adam Schiff of California and Tim Kaine of Virginia had called for the United States military to withdraw from hostilities that had not been authorized by Congress.
Massie stated on social media, "This is not our war. But if it were, Congress must decide such matters according to our Constitution. I'm introducing a bipartisan War Powers Resolution tomorrow to prohibit our involvement."
